Happy and Fit in Rancho Santa Fe

Whether you’re an avid tennis player or you’d rather take it easy and hit the trails, staying active in Rancho Santa Fe is an easy feat to accomplish. With miles of breathtaking trails, green parks and accessible facilities, it’s almost difficult to avoid getting some activity into one’s daily routine.

Residents of the Covenant in particular have access to not only miles of open space areas and numerous sports parks, but also private trails.

San Dieguito County Park, located on the western boundary of the Covenant, offers 125 acres of natural open space with several large lawn and picnic areas. It also features multi-purpose pavilions, playgrounds, and a basketball court. The park is well known for being home to Miracle Field, a fully accessible baseball field designed to allow children and adults with special needs to participate in baseball games.

The Covenant’s private trail network is especially appealing, offering over 50 miles of equestrian and pedestrian trails reserved exclusively for use by Covenant residents and their guests. One popular trail segment runs around the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Course, offering unbeatable views of the course and the surrounding estate homes.

Not a resident of the Covenant? Rancho Santa Fe is conveniently located to many other trails.

Mount Woodson Trail, perhaps more well-known as the Potato Chip Rock, is a popular 7.5 mile trail in Poway, boasting breathtaking vistas and great photo ops. The trail is also dog-friendly, so hikers can bring their pups on their workout. Hikers at the top are often seen taking pictures on top of the “potato chip,” what appears to be a thin ledge jutting from the trail. Definitely bring your camera for this one!

Iron Mountain is another popular trail located in Poway. The trail is 6.4 miles out and back, featuring beautiful wild flowers and views. Those who prefer a challenge will find that running the trail is also an option.

If outdoor activities aren’t your exercise of choice, Rancho Santa Fe is home to a variety of yoga and workout studios.

The Rhythm Yoga and Dance Studio is located in the Del Rayo Shopping Center, and features yoga and dance classes taught by trained professionals. The studio also prides itself on being one of the few in San Diego that offers a yoga wall. The yoga wall not only provides a challenging new aspect for advanced practitioners, but also enables the opportunity for first time yoga practice to those who would not have been able to do so without the added support.

For a classic work-out, Rancho Santa Fe’s Paragon Club is an exclusive health and fitness training center that provides state of the art technology and a highly educated staff. Founder Steve Percy has an impressive background, having worked with both the NFL San Diego Chargers and the NBA Los Angeles Clippers. The Club’s personal trainers custom-tailor exercise programs to fit personal goals and needs. More than just a regular gym, the club also offers sports and injury rehabilitation, sports-specific programs, and fitness programs designed specifically for women.
